2017 BMW X3 M Review, Engine, Price

The BMW is all set to roll out its new crossover in the X3 series and has declared it to come with a price tag of around $55,000. With few design modifications and more technical installations, the 2017 BMW X3 M is likely to face competition from Audi RS Q5 and Mercedes-AMG GLC63. To be released as a crossover, expect minor changes in terms of looks and redesign. However, to gain market, BMW may opt for an increase in a few dimensions here and there. Wheelbase may be increased from 110.6 inches while overall length may see an increase from 183.8 inches. This will make the insides roomier and may provide more cargo space.

If BMW decides to keep the height of 2017 BMW X3 M unchanged at 66.1 inches, then the new SUV may sport a sleeker look than any other model in this range. The front bumpers may be enlarged this time and may sport a muscular look. Also, expect a quad set of exhaust tips replacing the two-set chrome tips.

Spy shots also reveal a new set of wheels with wider tires. This will give the 2017 BMW X3 M enhanced ground clearance and better surface grip during off-road driving. A new set of side skirts is also expected.


However, expect a sportier steering wheel design with a flattened bottom. This may come draped in leather and is likely to sport heating features. Also, seats may get enhancement in leatherette material and should have heating features as well. A Nappa leather dashboard in on the cards.

The 2017 BMW X3 M will have an internal cargo space of 27.6 cubic feet with rear seats intact and a massive 63.3 cubic feet with the seats folded. Driver seat will be 8-way power adjustable and will have memory features. The instrument cluster behind the steering wheel will continue to display feedbacks from the speedometer, tachometer and engine coolant temperature sensors.

BMW is unlikely to put in X5’s 4.4-liter V8 engine in the 2017 BMW X3 M. So, no twin-turbo X3 M next year. Instead, it will retain the 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six engine that is seen in its previous generations and BMW M-series sedans. This powertrain will be capable of delivering a massive power output of 425 hp and a torque output of 406 lb-ft.

Expect the BMW X3 M 2017 to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in less than 5 seconds. The SUV may hit a top speed of around 155 mph. Also, an eight-speed automatic transmission will be mated to its engine. EPA figures are likely to improve. It may feature a rating of 19 mpg within city limits and 26 mpg on highways.

This is where BMW SUVs stays ahead of its competition. Apart from the regular tech installations like adaptive cruise control and forward collision warning system, the 2017 BMW X3 M is likely to sport the following features:

  1. Roll Stability Control along with Traction Control. This prevents the car from slipping by providing extra traction to all its wheels.
  2. A side impact beams with lane departure warning system. There will also be sensors to detect pedestrians and avoid a collision.
  3. A blind spot monitoring system and tire pressure monitoring system will also be available in this 2017 SUV from BMW.
