The current EcoSport was originally built in Ford’s Brazil factory way back in 2003. The 5 door hatchback then received a revision in design almost a decade later after its sales crossed the 700,000 mark around the globe. Recently, rumours are afloat that Ford is assembling its new 2017 Ford EcoSport and may soon launch it in the SUV market. Find out what all this $14,000 compact SUV has on offer for its customers.
Exterior Redesign and Interior Modification of 2017 Ford EcoSport
To be released as a facelift model, expect a few modifications to make by Ford while designing this Ford EcoSport 2017 exteriors. The front fascia will be completely redesigned which will now house a trapezoidal-shaped grille making a perfect angle with its headlights. The grille will have three pairs of thin chrome bars placed at equal distances. Also, the body coloured bumpers will now have mesh-shaped air vents.
Headlights are likely to have LED fittings. They are sharper this time and extend a bit over the front wheels on its sides. The sides will receive a prominent body line running across the SUV’s door handles and will sport a tapered look. The rear will have LED taillights with provision for carrying an extra tire.
The 2017 Ford EcoSport may receive a new dashboard. Its instrument cluster behind the steering wheel will now be an LCD screen with feedbacks from the tachometer, odometer and climate control sensors. Infotainment may receive some improvements with larger screens and more control buttons. Bluetooth audio controls may be installed by Ford.
Steering wheel will be draped in leatherette and may come with telescopic control. Ford may also decide to increase the dimension of 2017 Ford EcoSport. This will allow greater legroom and headroom along with increasing space in the cargo hold area. A driver’s armrest may also be available in the front seat along with lumbar support.
2017 Ford EcoSport – Powerful Engine and Performance
This facelift version is likely to receive Ford’s new 1.5-liter Ti-VCT petrol unit. This will be replacing the previous 1.5-liter petrol engine. A second option will also be available which will see the new 2017 Ford EcoSport a 1.0-liter EcoBoost engine, giving better fuel efficiency than rest of its siblings. A 1.5-liter diesel engine version will also be marketed by Ford.
Its engine trims will see a power output capacity ranging from 100 hp and torque delivery will be limited to around 154 lb-ft. However, EcoBoost version will rev a power output of 124 hp. All powertrains will be mated with a five-speed manual transmission system while six-speed automatic will be available as an option. Expect EPA to hover around the 37 mpg mark.
2017 Ford EcoSport – Technical Installations
Audio controls will be available on the steering wheel. Power windows will be installed along with central control features. In terms of safety, expect the 2017 EcoSport to come with:
- Advanced electronic braking system which will digitally sense pressure on the brake pedals and convert it to necessary analogue forces on the wheels.
- Airbag occupancy sensor with airbags installed in the steering wheel, driver seats and on the roof lining as well.
- A cruise control system may be installed by Ford to detect an incoming obstacle and alert the driver accordingly.
The 2017 Ford EcoSport will also have SYNC infotainment system with smartphone connectivity features. Installation of rear-view cameras for park assist features is also a possibility.
